Adventure

After driving the same way to work for last 15 years, I realized there was sign for the airport as I exited. It’s always been there; I just didn’t see it. As I turned on my blinker to turn left to go to my office, I thought, “what if I turned right and went to the airport?” Where would I go? That’s easy – someplace warm, someplace where I could see the ocean. What an adventure that would be!

I’m a planner but this idea sounds completely amazing. Could I really go somewhere without a packed bag? Could I go without making a plan, without going to the bank and without doing the 1000 other things I usually do before a vacation? I have my ID, my phone, and a credit card. I surely don’t know, but wouldn’t it be fun to try?

Maybe I should keep an “adventure” bag in the car, filled with a pair or shorts, a tank top, a sundress, a swimsuit, flip flops and a passport. Oh and maybe some eyeliner, mascara, and a toothbrush. Of course, any place you travel to will have what you need. Hotels have gotten so good with having shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a hairdryer. There are stores everywhere you go. I could always buy what I need. Doesn’t this sound grand?

It’s on my list – my 50 list – 50 Things to Do Before I Turn 50. Number 13 – Go on an unplanned trip. When number 13 was put on the list, I didn’t remember the airport sign at my work exit, but for last week each day I have thought one day you are going to turn right and head straight to the airport. I have 4 years to turn right and go on this unplanned trip and big adventure.

The control freak in me won’t let me take this adventure just quite yet because there is just too much going on in my life. But the fun side of me says as soon as things settle down, you are totally doing this. The thought of it is exciting.

If you could go on an unplanned adventure, would you go? If so, where would your heart take you?

xoxo, Jane Anne

Take a great adventure – especially with great friends!
