Excitement

“My heart is fit to burst.” I heard this in a movie last week and thought I love that. Do you ever get so excited you feel that way? I do, especially when I travel or when you haven’t seen someone in a long time. It’s such an exhilarating feeling.

I am the queen of counting down. I get excited for every trip, for every adventure, and for every visit from a friend whom I haven’t seen in awhile. I have a countdown app on my phone, and it is used often. (I highly recommend you get one). I text my kids in anticipation of our vacations, and I text my friends when we take girls’ trips. I send the number of days until we leave. I send gifs of people dancing or planes taking off. I send songs that will get them just as excited as I am. I truly love the excitement of it all. I love that feeling of not being able to sleep because I can’t wait for the adventures to happen. This excitement brings me joy.

Counting down and being excited about the big things is one thing, but what about excitement for the little things? A few weeks ago I read the best thing you can do when you are dreading a busy week of work is to plan something for the weekend that you can be excited about. That seemed like a genius plan. Why had I not thought of it before? Oh wait, I used to do that all the time before I had kids. Life has just gotten in the way. So I tried it that week. I made plans with some girlfriends for Saturday night. I picked new recipes to cook and a new drink to try. It completely made a difference in my week. Sometimes, it doesn’t have to be the excitement of the big things, it can be the excitement of a Saturday night hanging out with friends and laughing until our cheeks hurt. That is joy. That is excitement for the little things.

I challenge you to plan something this week. Plan something that makes you excited. Plan something to look forward to. Countdown the days. It just makes life more joyful.

What are you excited about? I can’t wait to hear.

xoxo, Jane Anne

  1. I could use more of this too. I am trying to plan new experiences and have more of a schedule for enjoying myself and rejuvenation. I think I need to plan some excitement to do solo as well.
